From Birth to Missoula
My whole family is from Montana but my mom and dad were both in the Air Force and stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany which is where I was born. The picture above shows a smooth line from Germany to here but the real journey was a series of crisscross and zig-zagging lines.
We left Germany before I turned three as my dad got stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi only to leave for Colorado Springs, CO less than two years later. A year after that, we were back in Mississippi for almost two more years. A month into third grade my dad left the A.F. and we were off to Seattle, Washington. Before third grade ended I was moving to Georgia and just nine months after that, the week before Christmas of my fourth grade year, we moved to Aruba. That was an amazing life until my dad was transferred to Puerto Rico, which was the polar opposite of Aruba. After less than a year of living in San Juan, we moved back to the States when I was eleven. I was able to finish growing up in Coral Springs, Florida.
When I was twenty-six years old, I moved to Montana to help my mom care for my grandparents and enjoy another five years with them. I met my husband here and both our children were born here. I never felt I had any roots until I landed in Missoula, where I shall forever call home.
